About
This Web site is about Eldon Ray James. Born in Yuma, Arizona, I grew up in West Texas and in Dallas, Texas. I felt called to the ministry, was seduced by newspapering, fell in love, and lost my way. I did a five-year stint in the U.S. Army then tried to get a degree from the University of Texas in Austin, fell in love, went to Colorado to help a friend fulfill his dream, fell in love, came back to the University to get a degree, fell in love, went back to Colorado to fulfill a dream of love, and lost my way. I stumbled around for a while, got back into newspapers, then broadcasting, then newspapers again, lost my way, made a seriously stupid mistake, and ended up back in Austin. With new insight and determination I finally earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Texas and decided to fulfill my dream and calling: to become a librarian. In May I will be graduated with Master of Science in Information Studies from the School of Information at the University of Texas in Austin. “Where now?” is a question without an answer, but I’m floating high out of the water in the river of life, with my feet downstream. This site offers a collection of items I’ve created―photography from as early as 1968; writing including non-fiction, fiction, poetry; and other relevant or irrelevant items― as well as a résumé and a blog. Feel free to wander about, make comments, or offer me employment.
